What is “Phone Management”?

In the RARE system, Phone Management describes how supported phones are defined and controlled so that they capture images of tests in a consistent, reliable way.

Each phone-related setting helps ensure that, when a user scans a test:

• The app is running on a suitable device

• The camera behaves as expected for that device

• Captured images are of sufficient quality for the configured Housings and Methods

At a high level:

• Phone Management tells RARE which phones and camera behaviours are acceptable for use.

• These controls work alongside Housings, Methods, Batches, Classifiers, and Ground Truth to support stable test performance across different devices.

Why phone management matters

Managing phones centrally allows us to:

• Protect image quality
  By controlling how specific phones capture images, we reduce variability due to hardware differences (for example, different lenses or sensors).

• Support consistent performance
  Once phone settings are defined and approved, RARE applies the same behaviour whenever that phone is used, supporting reproducible results.

• Scale across devices
  As you add more supported phones, you can configure each one in a controlled way rather than relying on default camera behaviour.
